About the Artist Ar-Jei-Em-Si
Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico in 1969. Lived in several countries,
Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Turkey and has traveled extensively
throughout Europe. In 1990 he transferred from Bilkent University in
Ankara, Turkey to Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) to continue
his studies in Graphic Design, Graduating from RISD in 1994, with a
(BFA) Bachelor of Fine Arts and a (BGD) Bachelor of Graphic Design.
After returning to Puerto Rico he worked as a Graphic Designer for a
few years and feeling very disillusion with the profession of Graphic
Design he exile himself in the Mountain “El Yunque” (National Rain
Forest) where he spent a period of 10 years trekking “the Jungle” with
his dogs, and creating his Artwork. In 2006, he had a very “Close Call”
with Death, and realized that If he would have died on a 4th of July of
2006, nobody would had ever known he was a great artist, because
he had not shown his artwork to anyone.
After coming down from the mountain in 2006 he became a “Street
Artist” sharing his artwork with the world in the form of “Street Art”
Compositions of his Stickers and Posters. Most recently he had to
abandon the Island of Puerto Rico after experiencing the destruction
of Hurricanes “Irma” and “Maria” on September of 2017, which
completely destroyed everything he had been working on artistically
for the past 10 years. He left the Island on November 7, 2017 and
relocated to Newburyport, MA.
